The Villlage Tourism Forum (VITOF) Nepal organized a program in Kathmandu on the occasion of its 17th anniversary and to mark Village Tourism Day.
Inaugurating the program, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Sports Ram Kumar Shrestha said tourism industry can get lots of benefits from village tourism. He also said the government would help all those involved in the promotion of village tourism.
On the occasion, Minister Shrestha unveiled ‘Village Tourism’ – a compilation of articles edited by Dr Prem Sharma.
Shiva Lamichhane, president of VITOF-Nepal, lamented that tourism attractions in villages are not getting enough publicity and space in mass media. “Realizing this fact, we have started a mission of publicizing at least one village tourism destination in a year,” he added.
Meanwhile, VITOF-Nepal awarded Barpak village in Gorkha with the Best Home Stay Village Award. The award carries purse of Rs 11,111 and certificate. It also felicitated village tourism expert Dr Surendra Bhakta Pradhananga and folk artiste Krishna Kandel and Indreni Group of ABC Television.
