Arrival figures released by Immigration Office at the Tribhuvan International Airport shows a total of 41,259 foreign visitors entered the country via air in June compared to 41,137 of June last year.
In aggregate, the South Asian segment registered negative growth of 1.04 percent mainly due to fall in arrivals from India – the major source market. Arrivals from India went down by 2.21 percent 19,323 in June, compared to 19,760 in June 2013. Arrivals from Pakistan and Sri Lanka decreased by 5.54 percent and 28.97 percent.
Similarly, arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia) also recorded positive growth of 0.49 per cent in aggregate. The number of visitors from China grew by 10 percent to 3,843 compared to the same month last year. Likewise, arrivals from Singapore and Thailand also increased by 12.56 percent and 5.79 percent, respectively. However, arrivals from South Korea, Japan and Malaysia went down by 31.8 percent, 13 percent, and 1.98 percent, respectively.
The number of visitors from USA increased by 5.68 percent to 3,349 in June.
The months of June, July and August are regarded as off-season for Nepali tourism industry due to monsoon.
