A Nepali expedition team led by Man Bahadur Khatri successfully climbed Sisne Himal this spring. This is the maiden ascent on the 5,911 meters peak that lies in Rukum district in the mid-western Nepal.
Khatri is the first person from Rukum district to successfully climb Mt Everest.
Along with Khatri, other members of the expedition team – Nilam Gurung, Amrit Sarki, Mulal Gurung, Binaya Jung Malla, Al Bahadur Khatri, Drhuba Bista and US climber Alonzo Lyons – also reached the summit of Sisne Himal.
Though the government had opened Sisne Himal many years ago, this is the first time that men have stood on its summit. It is the tallest peak in Rukum distirct. Nepal Mountaineering Association and District Development Committee, Rukum, among others, had supported the expedition team.
Locals believe the successful summit of Sisne Himal will attract more adventure seekers to the district in the coming days.
