Prakash, Kalpana win wall climbing c’ship

Prakash Silwal of Tourism Times fortnightly and Kalpana Maharjan of News 24 TV have won the male and female category of 2nd JAT-Nepal Inter Journalists’ Wall Climbing Championship held in Kakani on September 25.
The event was organized on the occasion of 34th World Tourism Day.
About 20 participants from different media organizations participated in the event held at 12 meters tall climbing wall at International Mountaineers’ Memorial Park, Kakani.
Similarly, Bishal Poudyal of Tourism Times fortnightly and Surendra Thapa of Avenues TV finished were the first and second runners-up respectively in the men’s category. Similarly, Sabita Sharma of Gorkhapatra Daily and Muna Karki of Rastriya Samachar Samiti stood second and third, respectively, in the women’s category.
Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sushil Ghimire and Ang Tshering Sherpa, honorary member of UIAA, handed over letter of appreciation and cash prizes to the winners and runners-up.
The winners, 1st runners-up and 2nd runners-up in both the categories received cash prizes of Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000, respectively.
Earlier, Secretary Ghimire inaugurated by trying wall climbing. Speaking on the occasion, he thanked JAT-Nepal for organizing the event to forge friendly relations among media people and to promote wall climbing as an adventure tourism product. “Water is an important resource and tourism is an important foreign currency earner. We need to protect and promote these resources,” Ghimire said referring to the theme of this year’s World Tourism Day celebration – Water and Tourism: Protecting our Common Future.
Similarly, Ang Tshering Sherpa, honorary member of UIAA, talked about climate change and its impact on the Himalayas. JAT Nepal President Hari Raj Joshi thanked all stakeholders for their support.
The event was supported by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Asian Trekking and Atalante Trekking and Mountaineering.
On the occasion, four participants won free one-night package at Jhule Mountain Resort, Kathmandu.
