Restaurant and Bar Association of Nepal (REBAN) – Pokhara is organizing Pokhara Street Festival from December 28 to celebrate New Year 2014.

REBAN-Pokhara has been organizing the event for the past 15 years with the objective to promote Pokhara as a destination for both domestic and foreign tourists. However, the organizers are putting focus on domestic tourists this year.

Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai, president of REBAN-Pokhara, said the association has decided to put more focus on domestic tourists from this year as their spending his higher than that of foreign tourists. “Also foreign tourists demand big music events and other programs which are costlier. Local tourists enjoy traditional and typical programs which are cheaper,” said Bhattarai.

Along with food stalls of different restaurants operating in Pokhara, the event will also focus cultural shows of different ethnic groups living in and Pokhara. There will also be competitive events for tourists and tourism workers.

Pokhara Street Festival has become a popular event in Nepali calendar. It draws thousands of domestic and foreign tourists every year.

According to officials of REBAN-Pokhara, some foreign tourists, who are already in Pokhara, have postponed their departure in order to enjoy the street festival.
