Direct tourist bus service between Pokhara and Lumbini has been obstructed since three weeks due to protest by a local transports’ syndicate.
A Pokhara-based travel agency, Mountain Overland Tours and Travels, had launched the service on September 27 on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
Western Regional Bus Operators Committee prevented the green-plated tourist buses operated by the agency form plying the route, arguing that only the black-plated buses can operate on the route.
However, officials of Mountain Overland Tours said the transporters’ syndicate prevented their buses from operating on the route saying that they would rob them of their business. “This allegation is untrue, as our fare is much higher than the fare charged by the committee,” they said.
Officials of the committee said they would allow green-plated tourist buses to ply the route only if they assure that they would carry only foreign tourists.
