Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Ram Kumar Shrestha on September 28 apprised the delegates of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) of the efforts that Nepal is putting in making aviation safe and secure.
Addressing the 38th Assembly of ICAO in Montreal, Canada, Minister Shrestha also expressed commitment to implement ICAO’s aviation rules and policies. “Despite difficult topography, Nepal is leaving no stone unturned to make aviation service safe and secure,” Minister Shrestha told the assembly according to a press release issued by Nepali Embassy in Ottawa.
He also said Nepal has started issuing Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) from 2010 itself as per the direction of the ICAO. “Preparations are on to introduce e-passports,” Minister Shrestha told the assembly.
On the occasion, Minister Shrestha, who is the leader of the Nepali delegation, also cast vote to elect ICAO Council members.
In the assembly, the Nepali delegation presented a working paper on ‘Air Navigation-Emerging Issues’. Likewise, Nepal registered two articles on ‘Implementation of Himalayan Route’ and ‘Development and Challenges of Human Resources in Aviation Sector’ at the assembly.
More than 1,500 representatives from 191 member countries of ICAO are participating in the assembly that will concluded on October 4.
