To spread the message of world peace and friendship, a Nepali mountaineer is planning to hoist flags of all 193 member countries of United Nations (UN) on the summit of Mt Everest.
Phurba Thile Sherpa, vice-chairman of World Peace Friendship Forum (WPFF) Nepal, plans to hoist the flags of 193 countries at the top of Mt Everest in this spring. He is a member of the ‘Mt Everest Expedition for World Peace and Friendship-2015? which is being organized by WPFF Nepal.
“The pictures of fluttering flags would be submitted to the head of states of all the countries and UN headquarters by mid-July,” Vinaya Shakya, chairman of WPFF Nepal, said at a press meet organized in Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) on Wednesday. “The expedition aims to relay the message of peace and friendship throughout the world.”
Speaking at the press meet, NMA President Ang Tshering Sherpa said he was hopeful that the campaign would become successful in relaying the message of world peace.
According to the organizers, the estimated cost of the expedition is Rs 1.8 million. Mountaineer Sherpa told the press meet that he would bear all the costs on his own. “My aim is not to create any record, but to relay message of word peace and friendship,” he added.
