C N Pandey of Samrat Travels & Tours has been elected the new president of Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA).

In the election for new executive held in Kathmandu on Friday, the incumbent 1st vice president, Pandey, defeated D K Sharma the incumbent 2nd vice president of the association.

Similarly, Achyut Guragain, Sangeeta Jirel, Ramesh Thapa, Sabita Bhattarai, Ram Prasad Shrestha and Surendra Bhattarai have been elected as 1st vice president, 2nd vice president, general secretary, secretary, treasurer and joint-treasurer, respectively.

Similarly, Sudarshan Nepal, Devaki Gurung, Phuri Gyalzen Sherpa, Amrit Kumar Dhakal, Ramesh Paudel, Raju Dhakal, Inu Thapa and Gita Dhakal have been elected as Executive Members.

The new executive committee will serve for two years, according to the NATTA Secretariat.

NMA celebrates 44th Anniversary

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) celebrated its 44th Anniversary by organizing a program on the premises of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on Wednesday.

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) celebrated its 44th Anniversary by organizing a program on the premises of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on Wednesday.

Tourism Secretary Maheshwor Neupane was the chief guest of the program, while Dinesh Bhattarai, director general of Department of Tourism, as the special guest. Chief Guest Neupane inaugurated the program by watering plants at the program venue.

High ranking government officials, NMA office-bearers, executive committee members, former advisers, and staffers as well as representatives of different organizations participated in the program.

On the occasion, NMA announced recipients of its different awards. It had decided to honor mountaineer Mingma Sherpa, who have climbed all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, with Kumar Khadka Bikram Adventurous Award. Similarly, Harka Gurung Mountaineering Award will be given to Buddhi Narayan Shrestha in recognition of his contribution in publishing different articles & books relating to mountains and mountain regions. Likewise, Ballav Mani Dahal of The Rising Nepal daily has been selected as the recipient of Dawa Norbu Mountaineering Journalist Award in recognition of his continuous effort in promoting mountain tourism.

NMA has planned to distribute the awards during its upcoming Annual General Assembly.

On the occasion, Chief Guest Neupane distributed certificates to participants and instructors of the 38th Basic Mountaineering Training.

Nava Raj Dahal elected TAAN president

Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has elected a new executive committee with president Nava Raj Dahal as president for a two-year term.

Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has elected a new executive committee with president Nava Raj Dahal as president for a two-year term.

The 39th Annual General Assembly (AGM) of the association held in Kathmandu on Sunday elected three vice presidents, one secretary, one treasurer, one joint treasurer and nine executive committee members.

Dahal, who is the promoter of Nepal Environmental Trekking, secured 331 votes, defeated his opponent Mohan Lamsal of Makalu Adventure Trekking by 14 votes.

Similarly, Khum Bahadur Subedi, Jivan Thapa Magar and Nihalri Bastola have been elected Senior Vice President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President of the association, respectively. Likewise, Ang Pemba Sherpa, Sujan Lamichhane, Ram Krishna Timilsina and Tara Rana have been elected as General Secretary, Secretary, Treasurer and Joint-Treasurer, respectively.

Similarly, Ritu Gyamdan, Jivan Lama, Rabindra Adhikari, Gopal Shrestha, Baburam Gurung, Janga Bahadur Lama, Rajan Prasad Kapri, Suk Bahadur Lama and Sher Bahadur Pariyar have been elected as executive members.

Outgoing President Chandra Prasad Rijal and TAAN Pokhara President Deepak Raj Adhikari will also be in the new executive committee as ex-officio members. The 23-member executive committee of TAAN will get complete shape after the executive committee nominates four members to the executive committee.

The AGM also endorsed annual report for fiscal year 2016/17 presented by General Secretary Karna Bahadur Lama and annual financial report for fiscal year 2017/18 presented by Treasurer Lila Baldab Dahal.

Earlier, inaugurating the AGM Tourism Secretary Maheshwar Neupane said that he was hopeful that the tourism tax collection dispute in the Khumbu region would be resolved soon. He was referring to the decision to collect Rs 2,000 per tourist as tourism tax by the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality.

On the occasion, TAAN honored Bachhu Narayan Shrestha with TAAN Sagarmatha Harka Gurung Award. Likewise, the association awarded eight journalists with TAAN Tourism Journalism Award.

Secretary Shrestha also awarded top ten trekking companies on the basis of issuance of TIMS Card in Fiscal Year 2016/16. The companies awarded on the occasion were Himalayan Encounters, Royal Mountain Trekking, Thamserku Trekking, Highland Excursion Nepal and Himalayan Social Journey Treks, Himalayan Wonders Adventure, Summit Nepal Trekking, Swissa’s Mountain Way Trekking, Raika Tours and Treks and Trek the Himalaya Trekking.

TAAN is the largest tourism association in Nepal with around 1,200 members under its umbrella.

 

Lamsal, Dahal in race for TAAN presidency

Two former general secretaries – Mohan Lamsal and Navaraj Dahal — are in the race for the president of Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN).

Though a third candidate – Nuru Jangbu Sherpa – is also in the race, industry people say the contest is between Lamsal and Dahal.

Along with the president, the election for the new executive committee of TAAN to be held at the Hyatt Regency Kathmandu on October 29 will elect 16 other office-bearers and members – three vice presidents, one general secretary, one secretary, one treasurer, one joint treasurer and nine executive members.

Khum Bahadur Subedi, Babu Kaji Sitaula and Nilhari Bastola are the candidates of Senior Vice President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President from Lamsal’s panel, while Purna Chandra Bhusal, Jivan Thapa Magar and Rishi Prasad Nepal are the Dahal panel’s candidates for the post of Senior Vice President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President, respectively.

Likewise, Lamsal panel has fielded Chyaban Devkota for the post of General Secretary, Cholendra Bahadur Karki for Secretary, Subash KC for Treasurer and Kiran Dharel for Joint Treasurer. Sher Bahadur Pariyar, Tapan Tajbhandari, Namgyal Zangbu Sherpa, Angbabu Sherpa, Janga Bahadur Lama, Surya Bahadur Thapa, Kul Prasad Subedi, Saroj Kattel and Ritu Gyamdan are the candidates for Executive Member from Lamsal panel.

Similarly, Ang Pemba Sherpa, Sujan Lamichhane, Ramkrishna Timilsina and Tara Rana are the candidates for the post of General Secretary, Secretary, Treasurer and Joint Treasurer from Dahal panel. Similarly, Dahal Panel has fielded Kabita Lamichhane, Rabindra Adhikari, Rajan Prasad Kapri, Gopal Shrestha, Jivan Lama, Baburam Gurung, Suk Bahadur Lama, Hari Sharan Kharel and Harka Bahadur Gurung for the post of Executive Members.

TAAN is the largest tourism association in the country with nearly 1,300 members under its umbrella. This is why election for the new executive committee of TAAN always draws massive media and industry attraction, with panels spending millions of rupees to woo voters is past elections are anything to go by.

 

Santabir Lama elected NMA president

Santabir Lama has been elected president of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).

Santabir Lama has been elected president of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).

Lama edged his competitor Zimba Zangbu Sherpa by 76 votes. While Lama got 383 votes, Sherpa could muster 316 votes.

Lama is the incumbent 1st vice president, while Sherpa is the immediate past president of the association.

Similarly, Dibash Bikram Shah and Maya Sherpa, both from Lama panel, have been elected to the post of 1st vice president and 2nd vice president, respectively. Shah defeated Bhumilal Lama, while Sherpa got better of Ngimi Sherpa of Zimba’s panel.

However, Kul Bahadur Gurung from Zimba’s panel has been elected to the post of general secretary. He defeated his opponent Bodhraj Bhandari of Lama panel by 100 votes.

Candidates of Lama panel have been elected to the post of secretary and treasurer. Tikaram Gurung and Sudarshan Neupane have been elected to the post of secretary and treasurer, respectively.

Four candidates from Zimba panel, and five from Lama panel have been elected to the post of Executive Committee Members. Dr Hari Prasad Shrestha, Ang Chhewang Sherpa, Da Gyaljen Shpera and Tulsi Gurung have been elected to the post of executive members from Zimba’s panel, while Pasang Tendi Sherpa, Singi Lama, Mingmar Sherpa, Binaya Shakya and Sanjeev Gurung have been elected Executive Members from Lama panel.

The newly elected executive committee will have term of three years.

A total of 756 votes were cast in the election for the executive committee held on Saturday.
